Cooperation Opportunities Discussed Between UFAZ and Toraighyrov University

The Rector of Kazakhstan’s Toraighyrov University, Dr. Nurlan Medetov, who is visiting Baku as part of the UI GreenMetric Sustainable University Rankings 2026 Results and Awards Ceremony hosted by Azerbaijan State Oil and Industry University (ASOIU), visited the French-Azerbaijani University (UFAZ) on September 23.

The guests first toured the university building and laboratories. A meeting was subsequently held with the participation of UFAZ Executive Director Assoc. Prof. Vazeh Asgarov, Secretary General Martin Godon, Head of the Education Department Samra Shiriyeva, Career Center Coordinator Ganira Nasibova, Chairman of the Borad-Rector of Toraighyrov University Dr. Nurlan Medetov, and Head of the Center for Strategic Planning and Quality Management Raigul Salimova.

The meeting focused on the main areas of activity of the two universities, their development priorities, and potential areas of cooperation. Particular attention was paid to research activities, the professional development of researchers, and opportunities to expand inter-university collaboration in this field.

Representatives of Toraighyrov University expressed their interest in UFAZ’s research-oriented activities, ongoing research projects, high-standard laboratories, and the potential of its researchers. The meeting also addressed opportunities for joint research projects, academic and researcher exchange, as well as exchange programmes for faculty members between the two universities.

It was also noted that Toraighyrov University has established substantial grant opportunities to support research activities. University representatives highlighted the availability of grants to finance research on the recycling and utilization of waste generated by energy companies, including slag. They also noted increased investment in the development of polymer laboratories and the need for qualified specialists in this field. The Kazakh side expressed interest in learning from Azerbaijan’s experience in these areas and in developing research cooperation with UFAZ.

The meeting also covered university-industry cooperation and the development of specialists in line with labour market needs. Representatives of Toraighyrov University noted that the university attaches particular importance to developing international partnerships in order to contribute to meeting the human resource needs of the industrial and business sectors.

The meeting concluded with discussions on opportunities to further expand cooperation between the two universities in areas of mutual interest.
