A panel discussion entitled “From Trust to Impact: How Industry and Academia Can Drive AI-Powered Digital Transformation” was held within the framework of the international conference Artificial Intelligence for Digital Transformations (AIDT 2026), hosted by the French-Azerbaijani University (UFAZ).

The panel brought together Mayya Dursunova, Data and AI Director at the conference sponsor, the International Bank of Azerbaijan (ABB); Deepak Dhungana, Head of the Institute for Digitalisation at IMC Krems University of Applied Sciences and one of the keynote speakers of AIDT 2026; Tural Mammadov, Chief Information Security Officer, Special Communication and Information Security State Service of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Board Member of OIC-CERT; and Suleyman Suleymanzade, Expert Data Scientist and AI Architect at Azercell Telecom. The discussion was moderated by Elviz Ismayilov, Vice-Rector for Science and Innovation at Azerbaijan State Oil and Industry University (ASOIU).

The panel discussion focused on three main themes: the large-scale deployment of AI projects and the challenges involved, trustworthy and responsible AI governance, and the development of the future AI ecosystem.

During the discussion, the experts analyzed the technical, organizational, and regulatory challenges encountered when scaling AI projects from pilot stages to wider implementation across the banking, telecommunications, and public sectors. It was noted that, in addition to technology adoption, data quality, governance mechanisms, and the development of human capital are all essential to maximizing the benefits of artificial intelligence.

The panelists also addressed issues related to building trust in AI, as well as ensuring transparency, security, and adherence to ethical principles. They emphasized that maintaining a balance between innovation, security, and regulatory requirements is critical for the successful implementation of AI technologies. In this context, the importance of international cooperation and the development of common approaches across different countries was highlighted.

Another key topic of discussion was the development of human resources in the field of artificial intelligence and the strengthening of university-industry collaboration. The experts noted the growing demand for qualified AI professionals and stressed that cooperation among universities, companies, and public institutions plays a crucial role in the development of the AI ecosystem.

At the conclusion of the panel, the participants shared their views on the priority areas that could help Azerbaijan strengthen its position in the field of artificial intelligence over the next five years.
