Practical Visit of UFAZ Students to the ASOIU Mineralogy Museum
A practical visit to the Mineralogy Museum of the Azerbaijan State Oil and Industry University (ASOIU) was organized for the second-year (L1) students majoring in Geology, Geophysics and Georesources and Petroleum Engineering and Reservoir Geology at the French-Azerbaijani University (UFAZ). Led by Arzu Aliyeva, the Geophysics Program Coordinator at UFAZ, this session represents a significant milestone in the students' professional development.
For those pursuing these specialties, it is considered essential to master the classification, macroscopic physical properties, and crystal morphology of minerals, with a particular focus on primary rock-forming minerals. This knowledge serves as a vital foundation for upcoming subjects such as petrology, sedimentology, and geological fieldwork.
The ASOIU Mineralogy Museum offers an ideal learning environment for this purpose through its extensive collection and unique exhibits. Within the open exhibition space, students had the opportunity to closely examine all major mineral classes, including rare specimens characterized by well-developed crystal forms and distinct physical properties.
This practical visit provided students with extensive opportunities to visualize and reinforce the theoretical knowledge acquired in the classroom through real-world specimens. Such experience-oriented lessons contribute both to the enhancement of the students' academic level and to their preparedness for future professional activities.
