Research Seminar on Biomedical Engineering Held at UFAZ
On October 23, the French-Azerbaijani University (UFAZ) hosted a research seminar titled “Biomedical Applications of Magnetic Localization,” delivered by Morgan Madec, Professor at the University of Strasbourg (Unistra) and researcher at the ICube Laboratory.
The seminar explored the principles of magnetic localization, a technology that uses magnetic fields and sensors to accurately track medical devices, and its applications in biomedical engineering. Used in minimally invasive surgery, this technology allows medical devices to be tracked and guided without requiring direct visual contact.
During the presentation, Morgan Madec shared examples of research conducted at the ICube Laboratory, jointly affiliated with the University of Strasbourg and the French National Centre for Scientific Research (CNRS). These included catheter tracking during magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), monitoring electrode implantation for deep brain stimulation, needle guidance for abdominal cryotherapy, and 3D shape reconstruction of medical instruments for orthopedic applications.
The professor highlighted the role of these technologies in improving the precision of medical procedures and determining the position of medical devices during complex interventions. He also discussed ongoing research into more accurate and reliable medical tracking solutions using magnetic fields and sensor systems.
The seminar concluded with a Q&A session, giving participants the opportunity to ask questions and exchange ideas. The event provided a platform to explore current research in biomedical engineering and the practical applications of innovative technologies in medicine.
