Scientific Article of UFAZ Alumna Published in the Journal “Crystal Growth & Design”

UFAZ alumna Konul Bashirova has co-authored a scientific article titled “Tuning Zeolite Crystal Composition and Morphology for Biomedical Applications”, published in the prestigious journal “Crystal Growth & Design”.
Last year, Konul Bashirova completed a five-month research internship in France, divided between the Polymers, Biopolymers, Surfaces Laboratory (PBS, UMR CNRS 6270) at the University of Rouen Normandy and the ICPEES Laboratory (UMR 7515 CNRS) at the University of Strasbourg-ECPM.
During this internship, she contributed to a research project that explored the often-overlooked role of zeolite crystal morphology in determining performance in health-related applications. As part of a broader effort to highlight the significance of crystal habit and size, the study reviewed key advancements in the field and aimed to inspire the development of novel porous materials for biomedical and other technological applications.
To begin this exploration, the research focused on emerging biomedical uses of zeolites, particularly examining how the controlled synthesis of LTA-type zeolites through precise tuning of the silicon-to-aluminum ratio, crystal size, and morphology could enhance their potential in drug delivery systems and other therapeutic platforms.
Konul Bashirova’s contribution to the project played a role in the successful publication of the peer-reviewed article. This experience also equipped her with valuable practical skills in materials chemistry, crystallography, and interdisciplinary research at the intersection of chemistry and biomedical engineering.
