UFAZ Alumna’s Research Article Published in an Internationally Renowned Journal
A research article co-authored by Dr. Shabnam Feyziyeva, an alumna of the French-Azerbaijani University (UFAZ) and a PhD in Chemistry, has been published in Chemical Communications, an international journal ranked in the Q1 quartile in the Scopus database.
Dr. Feyziyeva co-authored the article with Dr. Benoît Louis, who supervised her doctoral research at the University of Strasbourg (Unistra). Entitled “The Chemistry of CO₂ Capture: Amine, Carbonate and Ionic-Liquid Systems, and the Emergence of Reactive Sorbents for Downstream Conversion,” the article reviews existing scientific knowledge on the materials and chemical systems used for CO₂ capture, examining their potential and the key challenges associated with their application. As reducing CO₂ emissions from industrial and other sources is essential in addressing climate change, the development of efficient and energy-saving technologies in this field remains an important area of scientific research.
The article explores how the chemical properties of materials, their interactions with CO₂, and the energy required to release captured gas affect the efficiency of CO₂ capture technologies. The authors also discuss the prospects of bifunctional systems that combine CO₂ capture and its subsequent chemical conversion within a single material.
One of the key scientific challenges addressed in the study is finding the right balance between materials that can capture CO₂ effectively and those that allow it to be released with minimal energy consumption. The authors’ analysis highlights that no single material is suitable for every application. Material selection must therefore take into account the properties of each material and the specific conditions under which it will be used.
