The French-Azerbaijani University (UFAZ) hosted Ejder Babazade, Head of the Azykh Archaeological Research and Analysis Laboratories Center at Qarabağ University and a researcher at the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences.

During the meeting, attended by UFAZ Secretary General Martin Godon, the participants discussed opportunities for collaboration on multidisciplinary research bringing together archaeology, geosciences and analytical chemistry.

The discussions highlighted the potential of combining UFAZ’s expertise in geosciences and analytical chemistry with archaeological research to open up new scientific opportunities. Potential areas of collaboration include determining the composition and provenance of archaeological materials, studying the geological and environmental conditions of past periods, and using geophysical methods and remote sensing technologies to investigate archaeological sites.

The participants also explored the potential of molecular analysis of ancient organic residues to gain insights into the materials, technologies and human activities of past societies.

Beyond joint research, such collaboration could contribute to developing local expertise, strengthening laboratory and analytical capabilities, and promoting the exchange of scientific knowledge and experience between institutions.

The meeting marked an initial step towards identifying potential areas of cooperation and developing joint research projects.
