UFAZ at Caspian Agro – 18th Azerbaijan International Agriculture Exhibition

The 18th Azerbaijan International Agriculture Exhibition – Caspian Agro is currently taking place at the Baku Expo Center. The event brings together international companies from dozens of countries, alongside local participants. Exhibitors are showcasing the latest innovations and technologies in agriculture and the food industry. 4-day exhibition features cutting-edge agricultural machinery, modern irrigation systems, and sustainable farming solutions.
The French-Azerbaijani University (UFAZ) is also widely represented at this major event. Dedicated UFAZ stands were set up both inside the exhibition center and in the outdoor display area. The Strategic Partnership and Development Department provided comprehensive information to visitors about UFAZ's academic programs, educational opportunities, and international collaborations.
Representatives of the UFAZ Chemistry Department, Emil Gahramanov and Zumrud Yunusova, also took part in the event. They informed attendees about the university’s scientific laboratory equipment imported from Europe and conducted engaging mini-experiments that captured the attention of the audience.
UFAZ students actively participated in the exhibition by presenting their startup projects.
One such project was SmartMole, presented by Anar Maharramli, a fourth-year student in Geology and Geophysics Engineering. He had the exceptional opportunity to present the project to the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Mr. Ilham Aliyev, along with other high-ranking guests. The startup, a collaboration between UFAZ and Şabran-D MMC, is an AI-powered soil monitoring technology designed to revolutionize irrigation and fertilization in agriculture. Using modern sensors and artificial intelligence, SmartMole accurately determines where and when water and fertilizers should be applied. This reduces waste, increases productivity, and contributes to sustainable agriculture.
Another student-led startup, Algenix, was presented by Ramin Rustamov and Mehdi Eyvazov, fourth-year students in Chemical Engineering. This innovative project focuses on producing renewable biofuel from algae and aims to support a more sustainable future. Initially introduced during COP29-related events in 2024, the project once again attracted strong interest at the exhibition.
UFAZ was also represented by the Purnois startup, developed by third-year Chemical Engineering students Nurlana Humbatova, Zuleykha Amrali, and Aisha Niftaliyeva. Their research centers on ecological filtration systems made from hazelnut shells, aimed at purifying water used in agriculture. This sustainable approach both improves water quality and transforms agricultural waste into valuable resources.
The active participation of both UFAZ academic staff and students at Caspian Agro once again highlighted the university’s scientific potential, research capacity, and commitment to supporting innovation and entrepreneurship. Events like these provide students with valuable experience and unique networking opportunities in a global context.
