UFAZ Researcher-Teacher’s Scientific Article Published in a Q1-Ranked Journal
A scientific article co-authored by Associate Professor Dunya Babanly, a researcher-teacher at the French-Azerbaijani University (UFAZ), has been published in the prestigious Q1-ranked journal “Journal of Alloys and Compounds”. The article, entitled “SnTe-Bi2Te3-Te System: Phase Equilibria and Thermodynamic Properties of SnTe-Rich Ternary Phases”, presents the results of advanced research conducted in the field of materials science and layered functional materials.
The article is dedicated to the investigation of phase equilibria and thermodynamic properties in the tin-bismuth-tellurium system. Within the framework of the study, the SnTe-Bi2Te3-Te system was examined using differential thermal analysis (DTA), X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and electromotive force (EMF) methods.
As a result of the research, a complete isothermal section of the system at 300 K, a liquidus surface projection, and several polythermal sections were constructed. During the study, the standard thermodynamic functions of Sn2Bi2Te5, Sn3Bi2Te6, and SnTe-based solid solutions were determined.
The article notes that layered van der Waals materials formed on the basis of the SnTe-Bi2Te3 system attract particular attention due to their structural and electronic properties. Depending on their composition and layer thickness, these materials can exhibit semiconducting, thermoelectric, and topological properties. As emphasized by the authors, the newly obtained scientific findings are significant for the investigation and design of layered telluride materials that are promising for thermoelectric applications and quantum technologies.
