UFAZ Students Present Their Research at the International Astronautical Congress
Students of the French-Azerbaijani University (UFAZ) took part in the 77th International Astronautical Congress (IAC 2026), held in Antalya, Türkiye, from 5 to 9 October, as members of Azerbaijan’s national scientific delegation.
Organised by the International Astronautical Federation (IAF) and hosted by the Turkish Space Agency (TUA), the congress brought together space agencies, scientists, engineers, researchers, industry representatives and students from around the world. Held under the theme “The World Needs More Space”, this year’s congress provided a platform for sharing knowledge, exchanging ideas and fostering international scientific cooperation in space research and innovative technologies.
UFAZ students specialising in Computer Science and Geology, Geosciences and Georesources presented their research to an international audience through oral and interactive presentations. Their work covered a range of current topics, including anomaly detection in satellite systems, Earth observation, space object orbit modelling and space systems monitoring.
The students presented the following research papers:
- “Hybrid Physics-Informed Residual Learning for Short-Term Space Debris Orbit Propagation”
Author: Maryam Akhundova.
2. “Learning Astrodynamics Through Code: A Computer Science Student's Journey to Understanding Türkiye's AYAP Mission”
Authors: Maryam Akhundova and Dmitriy Kuramshin.
3. “Fiber Optic Distributed Acoustic Sensing for Structural Health Monitoring and Anomaly Detection in Space Systems”
Author: Kamila Rahimova.
4. “Detecting Ice-Ocean Interfaces on Europa-Type Moons Using Passive Seismology”
Author: Ilham Mammadzada.
5. “A Simulation-Based Framework for Anomaly Detection in Small Satellite Telemetry”
Authors: Laman Taghiyeva and Farhad Budagov.
6. “A Data-Driven Framework for Satellite-Based Detection of Volcanic SO₂ Emissions Using Earth Observation Data”
Authors: Farhad Budagov and Laman Taghiyeva.
