UFAZ Students Win Second Place at International Student Research Conference

Socar

Students of the French-Azerbaijani University (UFAZ) proudly achieved 2nd place in the “Towards Sustainable Chemistry and Chemical Engineering” section of the 7th International Student Research and Science Conference, organized in honor of the 103rd anniversary of National Leader Heydar Aliyev.

The conference covered three major themes: “Towards Sustainable Chemistry and Chemical Engineering,” “INFOTECH 2026,” and “Petroleum Geoscience and Engineering.” Representing UFAZ, students Aliya Kurmayeva and Sara Malik-Aslanova participated in the conference with their research project titled “Eco-Friendly Synthesis of Solid Base Catalysts from Local Agricultural, Food, and Marine Wastes for Biodiesel Production.”

Their project stood out among nearly 190 participants, the majority of whom were Master’s and PhD students. Out of all presented projects, only 12 were awarded, and the research conducted by UFAZ students attracted significant interest from both the participants and the jury members.

Notably, this is the second consecutive year that UFAZ students have received an award at this conference. Last year, the team achieved 3rd place with the project “Development of a

Sustainable Hybrid Catalyst NaOH/CaO Derived from Eggshell Waste for Biodiesel Production,” making this year’s achievement another important milestone and an improvement on their previous success.

UFAZ congratulates Aliya Kurmayeva and Sara Malik-Aslanova on their achievement and wishes them continued success in their academic and research journey.
