About event

On December 12, 2025, a scientific seminar titled “Strain Rates along the Alpine-Himalayan Belt from a Comprehensive GNSS Velocity Field” will be held at the Azerbaijan-French University (UFAZ), presented by Professor Frédéric Masson. The seminar will bring together students and researchers interested in geophysics, geology, and natural disaster modeling.

The event will cover the measurement of crustal movement rates along the Alpine-Himalayan belt, deformation in major tectonic zones, and earthquake risks. Professor Masson will provide detailed insights into the use of GNSS data and how this information contributes to understanding tectonic processes.

During the seminar, results from the integration and analysis of large-scale GNSS datasets will be presented. These results are important for evaluating surface deformation rates and seismic activity along the Alpine-Himalayan belt.

Professor Masson is affiliated with the School and Observatory of Earth Sciences (EOST), the Strasbourg Institute of Earth and Environment (ITES), University of Strasbourg (UNISTRA), and the French National Centre for Scientific Research (CNRS). His research covers continental collisions, rift zones, and intraplate deformation areas. He also conducts studies using GNSS data for atmospheric monitoring and the observation of subsurface structures.
