About event

The French-Azerbaijani University (UFAZ) will organize a research seminar titled “Machine learning for physics-based modeling: application for groundwater flow simulation” by Professor Marwan Fahs, Associate Professor at ENGEES (École Nationale du Génie de l’Eau et de l’Environnement de Strasbourg).

Dr. Marwan Fahs’ research focuses on hydrogeology, with particular expertise in seawater intrusion in coastal aquifers, CO₂ sequestration, and landslide processes. He has established numerous international collaborations and published more than 110 papers in leading international journals. He is also an editor for a hydrogeology journal.

During the seminar, Dr. Fahs will present how machine learning techniques can be combined with physics-based models to improve the simulation and prediction of groundwater flow. He will discuss how the integration of data-driven approaches with hydrological principles can enhance model efficiency, reduce computational costs, and better quantify uncertainty. The presentation will also include practical examples related to groundwater flow and salinity intrusion, showing both the potential and challenges of hybrid modeling approaches.

Those interested in attending are required to register.
