UFAZ will Host a Research Seminar on Planning the Future of Water Resources
About event
On March 6th, the French-Azerbaijani University (UFAZ) will host a research seminar titled "Water Diplomacy," led by Dr. Guy Bonvin, Deputy Head of Mission at the Swiss Embassy in Azerbaijan. The event aims to bring together students, researchers, and professionals interested in water resources management, international relations, and sustainable development.
This seminar will explore water as a decisive factor for sustainable economic development and stability, as well as its potential to build cooperation between countries. Dr. Bonvin presents water diplomacy not merely as a technical issue, but as a preventive dialogue tool that integrates diplomacy and politics. The seminar will facilitate an exchange of ideas on the impact of climate change on the water cycle, cooperation opportunities in transboundary river basins (such as the Kura-Aras basin), and the "Blue Peace" concept. Particular focus will be placed on methods for reducing water scarcity and natural disaster risks through joint action.
Dr. Guy Bonvin’s work is closely linked to economic cooperation, bilateral relations, and the COP29 conference. He previously served as the Swiss Special Envoy for Water in Central Asia (2019-2022) and held managing roles in the Swiss-Ukraine cooperation program. A PhD graduate of the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne (EPFL), Dr. Bonvin possesses over 20 years of international experience in the management of water and energy resources.
We invite you all to participate in these discussions on shaping the water diplomacy of tomorrow!
