Brief description of UFAZ: UFAZ is an ambitious project initiated by the Presidents of the French Republic and the Republic of Azerbaijan in 2014. It is administered by the historic university of Azerbaijan - the Azerbaijan State Oil and Industry University (ASOIU) from the Azerbaijani side and the prestigious University of Strasbourg (Unistra) from the French side.
UFAZ delivers 2 national diplomas (French and Azerbaijani) at the Bachelor level in the following specialties: Computer Sciences, Chemical Engineering, Geophysics, Oil and Gas engineering. And at the Master level in the following specialties: Data Science and artificial intelligence, Physical chemistry/Chemical engineering, Geosciences, Water Resources and Management. Tuition language is English.
Position description:
Position name: Research Engineer in Chemistry Field
Type of contract: Full-Time
Position in the organizational structure: Attached to the Chemistry and Chemical Engineering department of the French-Azerbaijani University (UFAZ), under the supervision of the Chemistry Teacher Coordinator of UFAZ.
Starting date: September 2025
Responsibilities
- Instrument Management: Oversee the daily operations, maintenance, and repair of analytical instruments;
- Experimentation: Design, execute, and optimize experiments using the available analytical equipment;
- Scheduling & Coordination: Organize and schedule analyses for internal and external researchers and Master/PhD Students, ensuring efficient use of laboratory resources;
- Training & Support: Conduct training sessions for researchers and Master/PhD Students on the proper use and maintenance of analytical instruments;
- Inventory Management: Maintain an up-to-date inventory of chemicals, reagents, and laboratory supplies; identify and order necessary items in a timely manner;
- Data Management: Ensure accurate recording and reporting of analytical data; assist researchers and Master/PhD Students with data interpretation and troubleshooting;
- Compliance & Safety: Ensure all laboratory activities comply with safety regulations and institutional policies;
- Continuous Improvement: Keep abreast of technological advancements in analytical chemistry; implement improvements to enhance laboratory efficiency and capability.
Requirements
- Proficiency in English (both written and verbal);
- Master's degree in Chemistry, or a related field;
- Demonstrated experience with GC, GCMS, ICPMS, LCMS, HPLC, and PXRD instruments.
- Experience in managing and repairing laboratory equipment is a plus;
- Eagerness to learn and stay updated with new techniques and technologies;
- Prior experience in a research or industrial laboratory setting;
- Familiarity with laboratory management systems;
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills;
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team.
