The Ambassador of Greece in Azerbaijan, HE Nicolaos D. Kanellos: "Education is a priority for me."

The Greek Ambassador to Azerbaijan HE Nicolaos D. Kanellos visited on June 21 the French-Azerbaijani University (UFAZ) and met with the ASOIU (UFAZ) Rector, Professor Mustafa Babanli. HE Ambassador got acquainted with the UFAZ premises, including chemistry and physics laboratories as well as the conference halls.

During their meeting, Rector of ASOIU and Greek Ambassador exchanged common views about the key role of education, and the quality of French Higher Education system.

Rector also underlined the great advantages of UFAZ that include two undergraduate state diplomas from France and Azerbaijan thanks to the presence of highly qualified French faculty Professors from the Universities of Strasbourg and Rennes 1, as well as fully equipped modern laboratories.

HE Nicolaos Kanellos in his turn talked about the important role that the government of Azerbaijan gives to Education: "I am well aware that the Azerbaijani government pays a lot of attention to the development of education and I am glad to say that UFAZ exceeded my expectations. I am very impressed!"

"I myself continued my postgraduate in the University of Nice (France) and my daughters both studied in France too: in Strasbourg and Avignon universities. Education is a priority for me. The job of a student is to perform. Society needs to be governed by knowledge and not by emotions. Every educated person has his own secrets that he/she gets through experience. One of those secrets I can share with you: its about the word truth, which is "Aletheia" in Greek and which literally means "never forget your past, never lose your memory." - said Ambassador sharing his insights about the ancient history of Greece and their European values of knowledge and culture.

Rector Babanli has invited Ambassador Kanellos to come and visit in a near future the Azerbaijan State Oil and Industry Universiy and to share his motivational and inspirational ideas with the students, faculty and staff members.

It is also a notable fact that HE Kanellos, fully proficient in French language, has worked at the begining of his diplomatic career at the Permanent Mission of Greece to the Council of Europe in Strasbourg, France.
