UFAZ Guest Lectures series present: Cecilia Zanni-Merk, invited Professor of Computer Science

On October 10 2018, UFAZ welcomed another invited Professor from France who organised a guest lecture on her Research topic "Semantic Technologies for Industry 4.0".

Professor Zanni-Merk is teaching Computer Science to L2 students at UFAZ and is a Head of the Mathematical Engineering Department of INSA Rouen Normandie. She is also the Head of the MIND research group at the LITIS laboratory in Rouen, France.

"Semantics is the study of meaning. It is central to the study of communication (a crucial factor in social organization). It is also central to the study of the human mind - thought processes, cognition and conceptualization". Professor Zanni-Merk elaborated on the importance of semantics in the computer science field. She stressed that semantics is bound up with the way in which we classify and convey our experience of the world through language.
