UFAZ Students and Alumni Participated in BP’s Summer School

From August 1 to 29, BP’s Summer Field Course took place, featuring expert-led lectures and field trips to some of Azerbaijan’s most significant geological sites. Out of 18 participants, 13 were students and alumni of the French-Azerbaijani University (UFAZ).

The intensive month-long program was conducted under the guidance of Professor John Weber, a geologist from Grand Valley State University, and Dr. Elmira Aliyeva, a scientist at the Institute of Geology and Geophysics of ANAS. Participants taking the Structural Geology course with Professor Weber gained new skills in identifying, measuring, and digitally analyzing geological structures. Dr. Aliyeva, leading the Sedimentology and Stratigraphy sessions, helped students better interpret rock layers and understand the processes shaping their formation.

In addition to lectures at BP’s Xazar Centre, students applied their theoretical knowledge in practice, including 3D modeling exercises. Field trips covered Yasamal Valley, the Candy Cane Mountains, Dashgil Mud Volcano, Kirmaki Valley, AzLab Laboratory, the Caspian Coast, Altiagach, Perekeshkul, Shorabad, and Hajikabul.

At the end of the program, all participants received certificates of completion.

We believe that through this program, our students and alumni gained deep theoretical and practical knowledge. We are confident that they will successfully apply this experience in both their academic and professional endeavors.
