About event

A research seminar titled “Rethinking AI-Driven Mental Health: From the Formal Definition to Explainability-First Modelling” will be presented by Dr. Yusif Ibrahimov, a UFAZ graduate and PhD holder from the University of York (UoY).

In this seminar, Dr. Ibrahimov will share his research findings on the responsible and transparent use of Artificial Intelligence in mental health assessment. His work focuses on one of the key challenges in AI – the “black-box” problem, which refers to the difficulty of understanding how AI models make their decisions. To address this, he proposes a new theoretical framework for explainable AI tailored to mental health applications. Based on this framework, he developed MentalXAI, an innovative model that uses mental health knowledge bases to produce clear, well-grounded, and domain-specific explanations.

During the seminar, participants will see how MentalXAI achieves more accurate and interpretable detection of stress, depression, and suicide ideation, while providing results that align with psycholinguistic and psychological knowledge.

After graduating from UFAZ, Dr. Ibrahimov pursued his PhD studies at the University of York, focusing on Explainable AI in Mental Health, and worked as a Teaching Assistant for Mathematics and Computer Science modules. His research was presented at the prestigious AAAI Conference Workshop on Health Intelligence.

In addition, Dr. Ibrahimov actively contributed to the organization of the Yorkshire Innovation in Science and Engineering Conference (YISEC), serving as the Postgraduate Student Chair. He also successfully completed the York Learning and Teaching Award (YLTA) program and was officially accredited as an Associate Fellow by Advance HE.
