On November 17, the French-Azerbaijani University (UFAZ) hosted the 4th meeting of its Research Council. The session brought together representatives from the Azerbaijan State Oil and Industry University (ASOIU) and the University of Strasbourg (UNISTRA) to discuss ongoing research activities and future development plans.

The meeting was attended by Dr. Rufat Azizov, Rector of ASOIU; Dr. Vazeh Asgarov, Executive Director of UFAZ; and Dr. Martin Godon, Secretary General of UFAZ. Representatives from UFAZ’s educational and research units were also present.

The session was co-chaired by Dr. Jean-Marc Planeix, UFAZ Coordinator and Vice-President of UNISTRA, and Dr. Dunya Babanli, UFAZ teacher-coordinator and ASOIU teacher-researcher. Research coordinators in computer science, geosciences, and chemical engineering from both universities participated in the meeting.

During the session, participants reviewed UFAZ’s management model and the role of the Research Council. The organization of research activities, ongoing projects, and the importance of regular research seminars were discussed. Updates were also shared on an upcoming international conference dedicated to computer science.

One of the main topics of the meeting was UFAZ’s long-term research strategy, including international collaboration, funding opportunities, and the annual research budget. The Council also addressed high-level publications and the dissemination of research outputs.

Other key topics included doctoral programs in Azerbaijan and France, ongoing PhD dissertations within the framework of UFAZ, and the development of research infrastructure. Issues such as laboratory space allocation, plans for new facilities, equipment renewal, and technical staff requirements were also discussed.

The meeting concluded with discussions on strengthening UFAZ’s research network both within the French Consortium and across Azerbaijani institutions, as well as developing partnerships with private sector stakeholders.

The UFAZ Research Council plays a strategic role in defining the university’s scientific priorities and managing research initiatives. Working closely with ASOIU and UNISTRA, the Council oversees projects, strengthens research capacity, and supports the improvement of laboratory facilities and scientific output. It contributes to building a dynamic research environment that meets the analytical and technological needs of both the academic community and the private sector.
