Narinj Taghiyeva, a laboratory assistant in the UFAZ Chemistry department, and a Cotutelle PhD student at the University of Strasbourg and ASIOU,  has recently published a research article in the Materials journal. The paper, titled "Synthesis and Characterization of Novel Adsorbents Based on Functionalization of Graphene Oxide with Schiff Base and Reduced Schiff Base for Pesticide Removal," explores the functionalization of graphene oxide (GO) nanosheets with Schiff base and reduced Schiff base to create novel adsorbents.

The study examined both covalent and non-covalent functionalized GO nanostructures to assess their ability to remove pesticides such as Epoxiconazole, Dimethomorph, Cyprodinil, Chlorothalonil, Acetochlor, and Trifluralin from water. The structures were analyzed using techniques like SSNMR, FTIR, XRD, TGA, SEM, and TEM. The findings indicate that covalent functionalization significantly improved the adsorption capacity of GO, while non-covalent functionalization had minimal impact. This innovative work focuses on improving pesticide removal from water sources, contributing significantly to sustainable water purification technologies.
