On September 12-13, a bootcamp on “The Role of Artificial Intelligence in Precision Agriculture” was organized by the Agricultural Innovation Center of the Ministry of Agriculture. The event aimed to promote the use of digital technologies in agriculture, help young people transform their theoretical knowledge into practical skills, and support the development of the agriculture startup ecosystem.

Twenty students from 17 universities across Azerbaijan took part in the program. Representatives of agribusiness companies, as well as experts from acceleration and incubation centers, delivered presentations and shared their experience and recommendations on how student projects could be further developed, commercialized, and brought to market.

Parvin Salahov, a Computer Science student at the French-Azerbaijani University (UFAZ), also participated in the bootcamp. On the first day, during the Agribusiness Festival, he presented the 1DU3 startup in the Startup Zone. The project, founded by UFAZ alumna Maryam Babayeva, aims to produce 1,3-Propanediol (PDO) through biological fermentation using renewable resources. This provides a sustainable and cost-effective alternative to petrochemical-based production, which is widely used in cosmetics, bioplastics, and other industries.

As part of the program, students joined an infotour to Azgranata LLC, Shirvan Wines LLC, and the Shamakhi Viticulture and Nursery Center. These visits provided valuable insights into viticulture, nursery practices, and wine production, as well as opportunities to explore the potential application of AI solutions in these areas.

The participants also had the chance to meet the Minister of Agriculture of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Mr. Majnun Mammadov. During the meeting, the Minister praised the students’ startup initiatives and emphasized their importance for the future development of the agricultural sector.

Among nearly 20 participants, Parvin Salahov proudly represented UFAZ, standing out with his startup presentation and successfully showcasing both the university and the growing interest of young people in agriculture.
