111111

In 2024, for the first time, the French-Azerbaijani University (UFAZ) conducted an application process in three research fields to support research work, involve selected candidates in joint projects with French researchers, and support an innovative research program and joint publications for doctoral students and researchers of the Azerbaijan State Oil and Industry University (ASOIU). From each research field (Chemical Engineering, Computer Science, and Earth Sciences), three researchers were selected, making a total of nine researchers.

In the field of Computer Science, three selected ASOIU doctoral students, Anar Mammadli, Samir Aliyev, and Pavel Kosov, submitted papers and were invited to participate in the 28th International Conference on Knowledge-Based and Intelligent Information & Engineering Systems (KES 2024) held in Seville, Spain, in September this year under the scientific supervision of Professor Sesilia Zanni-Merk from the University of Rouen in France and professors and associate professors from ASOIU. On September 11-13, Samir, Pavel, and Anar successfully participated in the mentioned conference, with their expenses covered by UFAZ.

For your information, Pavel Kosov’s paper, titled "Advancing XAI: New Properties to Broaden Semantic-Based Explanations of Black-Box Learning Models," co-authored with UFAZ teachers Nahla El Kadhi, Sesilia Zanni-Merk, and ASOIU Vice-Rector Latafat Gardashova, was awarded in the “Best Student Paper” category at the conference.

Additionally, one of the three selected ASOIU researchers, laboratory assistant from the Department of Oil and Gas Geology, Allahverdi Taghiyev, was invited by the University of Strasbourg's Institute of Earth and Environmental Sciences (ITES) in France to conduct research in collaboration with professors Marwan Fahs and Damien Lemarchand from that institute. Allahverdi Taghiyev's research at ITES was focused on assessing the impact of climate change on water resources using modern evaluation methods. He successfully completed his research work at the institute within a week.
